Here is an old press release that I found and thought I’d share from the PA Civil War 150th committee. In 2011, the Pennsylvania Civil War Road Show will travel to 22 counties across the state to share the incredible personal stories of Pennsylvania’s men, women and children during the war. The Road Show packs an impressive amount of interactive exhibits on the Civil War experience in Pennsylvania into a 53-foot expandable trailer. It will also collect Pennsylvania’s Civil War history county by county, inviting people to share Civil War artifacts, photographs and stories in a recording booth. Over the four-year anniversary of the Civil War (2011-2015), the Road Show will travel to all 67 counties in Pennsylvania.

“PENNSYLVANIA CIVIL WAR 150” RELEASES 2011 SCHEDULE FOR CIVIL WAR ROAD SHOW
Twenty-two Pennsylvania counties will host traveling exhibition during first year of Civil War sesquicentennial

HARRISBURG, PA –Pennsylvania Civil War 150 released today the Pennsylvania Civil War Road Show 2011 schedule, announcing the 22 Pennsylvania counties that will host the traveling exhibition in the first year of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Based in a 53-foot expandable trailer, the Civil War Road Show will bring interactive exhibits and special programming on the Keystone State’s vital role in the war to local communities across the Commonwealth. The Road Show will travel to each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties at least once during the four-year anniversary of the Civil War (2011-2015).

“Every Pennsylvania community, large and small, affected the outcome of the Civil War, so we wanted to bring these local stories and unique heritage experiences to Pennsylvanians in their hometowns,” said Barbara Franco, executive director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. “The Civil War Road Show will bring history to life for every Pennsylvanian by telling the incredible personal stories of our nation’s and our state’s heritage in interactive and engaging ways.”

Through stereoscopic photographs, original compositions of Civil War-era music and sound effects, interactive maps, hands-on objects and animated storytelling, the Road Show will convey accounts of the many different ways Pennsylvania’s men, women, children and communities experienced the Civil War—both on the battlefield and the home front.

“The Road Show delivers a dynamic visitor experience through state-of-the-art exhibition techniques to tell the rich stories of the Civil War in a transportable museum-like setting,” said Rosalind Remer of Remer & Talbott, the company responsible for the interpretation, content and project management of the Road Show. A number of other firms also collaborated on the development of the traveling exhibit.

The Road Show will also collect the stories of Pennsylvania’s Civil War history, county by county, in a “Share Your Story” recording booth where the public will be invited to share their own Civil War-era family photographs, artifacts and stories digitally and/or orally to be uploaded to PACivilWar150.com. And a virtual scrapbook feature will invite visitors to take a picture of themselves at the Road Show in the style of a Civil War-era photograph that could be uploaded and incorporated into a customizable digital scrapbook with Civil War ephemera.

In its first year, the tour will kick off on May 5, 2011, in Allegheny County hosted by the Senator John Heinz History Center and travel every week, stopping at museums, historical societies, libraries, fairs and more for approximately five days each (Thursday – Monday), through Oct. 1, 2011. A special preview of the Road Show will be held in Harrisburg for members of the General Assembly and the public to coincide with the start of the Civil War sesquicentennial in April 2011.

At each site, localized performances and programs unique to the host organizations will take place under a Civil War-era tent adjacent to the Road Show. Host organizations for the Road Show were selected through a competitive application process, which began in September 2009.

Pennsylvania Civil War 150

The Pennsylvania Civil War Road Show is an initiative of Pennsylvania Civil War 150, the state’s official program commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, 2011-2015. PA Civil War 150 is governed by a statewide alliance of history, heritage, arts and culture organizations convened by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), the Pennsylvania Heritage Society (PHS), the Senator John Heinz History Center and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania along with a number of partner organizations across the state. PA Civil War 150 is leveraging the considerable strengths of these institutions to bring high-quality programming to the commemoration. PA Civil War 150 includes several key statewide initiatives and facilitates and helps market numerous activities and events at the regional and local levels.
