The 21st Century history classroom allows students to become historians by interacting with digital primary sources. This workshop shows how to turn a traditional classroom into a tradigital history classroom.
Primary Sources
Primary source materials foster a deeper understanding of history and enable students to relate to historical events. This presentation explores how to find primary sources and use them in your classroom in both traditional manners and through technology.
Thinking Differently
We show you strategies that go beyond simple, high-level overviews of sources. We give you strategies to help students examine primary sources and compare them against diverse sources that represent various points of view while confronting the complexity of the past.
Websites
From libraries, museums, and art galleries all throughout the world, countless original resources have been digitally preserved and are freely accessible. These organizations offer free access to primary sources, such as maps, manuscripts, newspapers, prints, pictures, films, and audio recordings, for instructors and students.
Instructional Strategies
This workshop will provide social studies teachers with a variety of methods to incorporate educational technologies into their instruction in ways that are focused on the needs of their students, including web-based archives of primary source materials, student-produced podcasts and documentaries, content review games, and more.
WHO WE ARE?
We have been giving private, group and virtual tours of the Gettysburg battlefield for years. While we are not Licensed Battlefield Guides, we are able to provide you with high-quality tours for your group or classroom. Rather than focusing on a lot of “boring history” our virtual field trips bring an overview the battle mixed with primary sources and intriguing stories from the actual participants.
